Search for a local, independent BMW repair shop with BMW mechanics that have dealer-level expertise at a fraction of the expense. And who knows, you may even save yourself a little bit of money. You also will still be receiving the same original equipment manufacturer (OEM) replacement parts that the dealership uses, installed by highly specialized BMW technicians. You will still be receiving the same top-notch BMW repair service, if not better, than what the dealership provides. Yet, there are thousands who worry that one small thing will crumple their precious warranty up and throw it into the waste basket. Taking your vehicle to your local BMW service center for routine service does NOT void the warranty. Nobody in their right mind would want to void their car warranty. You have the right to have your BMW serviced according to the manufacturer’s maintenance schedule at any qualified shop, including your local independent BMW repair shop. Your Rights Under the Magnuson-Moss Warranty ActĪccording to the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act of 1975, vehicle manufacturers can’t tell you, the consumer, where to have your scheduled maintenance and repair work done that is under warranty. This is quite the myth and unfortunately, many people believe it to be true.
It’s common to hear that once you purchase your BMW with a warranty, scheduled maintenance and repairs need to be completed by the dealership or else it voids the warranty.
